2010 Blessings

2010 is going to bring about a lot of change for us. Ready or not, Jeff and I have recently entered a new and exciting life journey together...

We're having a baby!!
Due July 6. {Six months from today!!!}

{ultrasound at 9 weeks}

When we found out the news mid-November, it was pretty unbelievable. We were surprised (in a good way) and know that Heavenly Father has His timing.

The whole thing seemed totally unreal until my first OB appointment in early December. Jeff and I didn’t really know what to expect going into it, but we had a great experience. We met our doctor (who is awesome!) and we got to see our little baby’s heartbeat! Words can’t express what it was like to look at that monitor and witness a life growing inside of me. Amazing!

Our families are also very excited! My parents found out very early on (luckily in time to change their summer travel plans), and we told my brother and sister with a magnet of the first ultrasound. We also gave them some additional mementos on Christmas.

We told Jeff’s family at his mom’s 50th birthday party. We said we wanted to play a “game” as part of mom’s gift. For each of Jeff’s family members, we wrapped up a grocery item with a key word “grandma,” “aunt,” etc. It didn’t take long for them to catch onto our secret, especially when Jeff’s mom found the ultrasound in her birthday card.

Overall I've felt pretty good! The first 9 weeks I was hardly sick at all, but starting into weeks 10/11 I started having some sickness and threw up more times {and in the most inconvenient places} than I'd like to mention. Jeff has been great to take care of me when I need it and fend for himself on multiple occasions. Beginning at about 12 weeks, the sickness has been much less consistent, which has been wonderful.

My second doctor's appointment was yesterday. This time we got to hear the heartbeat! I'm about 14 weeks along now and we will find out what we're having mid-February. I don't think the reality of how life-changing this will be for us has sunk in completely yet, but we are excited to start growing our family!

The Start of a New Year

I can’t believe it's 2010!

We spent New Year's Eve with Jeff’s family and celebrated another birthday in the family! As tradition has it, we ate Chinese food ‘til we could eat no more. I got the stupidest fortune in the history of fortune cookies. It said, “Some fortune cookies contain no fortune.” I should’ve asked for another one! Then we watched the movie UP in its entirety. After that, Jeff and I went home, had sparkling cider and watched the ball drop in NY. It was the perfect, low-key way to bring in the New Year.

On New Year’s Day we packed up and left on our weekend road trip to Denver. The first night we stayed with Jeff’s high school friends who live in Wyoming. They were so nice to us and it was great to spend some time with their cute family!

Wyoming State Capital

After a relaxing Saturday morning, we drove the rest of the way to Denver and checked into our hotel. Thanks to Steve’s navigation system, we were able to locate a Joe’s crab shack for dinner, which made us all very happy. :D

The next day was the BIG day... our first NFL experience!! Here we are in front of the Invesco field at Mile High. You can feel the anticipation.

Our seats were close to the top at the south 20 yard line. There really isn't a bad seat in the stadium.

Before the game started, some professional parachuters jumped out of a plane above the stadium and land on the field. It was really cool, because a couple of them swooped down right over our heads... we could almost grab onto them!...

The Bronco's making their grand entrance.

The packed stadium. Attendance was around 69,000!

Satisfying my craving.

We had a GREAT time. It was really fun to be around so many crazy fans. People were giving high fives all around us every time something good happened. It was a tie game up until the 4th quarter. Too bad the Bronco's lost it, but we still had a blast. After the game, we hit a Denny's for some hot chocolate and a bite to eat before heading back to Salt Lake. We arrived home around 5 this morning! It was a fun, fun trip and we were thankful the weather cooperated with us all weekend!

One Year Older

It was my birthday on Monday! I woke up before Jeff, since I had to be to work earlier than him. When I noticed he was beginning to drift to consciousness, I crawled back in bed anticipating him to wake up and suddenly burst out in song. Then like the brat that I am,.. my patience wore thin so I put my finger on his bottom lip and made him mouth in a high pitched voice "happy birthday Sarah." That was enough to fully wake him up, and he said something to the effect of "couldn't you wait to let me say it on my own." :) He wished me happy birthday for real and made me a yummy breakfast before I left for work.

Too bad that I had to work, but it was actually fun because my co-workers were extra nice to me and I was training, so the day went by fast!

Before leaving work, I cut my finger (very deep) with a pair of sissors and I was such a baby about it. It did hurt pretty bad, but if you would've seen me, you would've thought that I had broken my finger, or worse. Poor me. Jeff made it all better, though, patched me up & made me happy again. He gave me some speakers for our Mp3 player & a little tripod stand for our camera. :)

The birthday dinner was at Wingers and then we had a few people over for cake. This year I decided I wanted a Bear cake. Little did I know how much work it would turn out to be! Jeff and I were a team and below is the finished product. I was very protective over that cake!The day was topped off with this awesome, hand-drawn birthday card from Seth. How can you not love this magnificent piece of artwork?

Christmas 2009

As always, Christmas came and went too fast. We loved spending the night before and the entire day with our families. We are so spoiled!

Good news, we were able to sleep in until around 7:30 this year - big improvement.

Jeff and I are good at hyping up our Christmas gifts, and they didn't disappoint. Jeff got me a USU beanie, chocolate direct from Germany, a mini rice cooker, and new shoes to replace my worn-out ones (the same ones I got huge blisters from walking all over campus, but never stopped wearing)!! I gave Jeff a Bahamas shirt in honor of our upcoming trip, a Broncos beanie, and Bronco's tickets to Sunday's game!! He was surprised to say the least and I was so happy that I was able to keep it a secret from him for as long as I did.

We had just enough time to exchange gifts and shower before heading over to the Laytons for a big Christmas breakfast.

Here are a few pictures of our day (before my camera died).

Not Pictured: Visiting Jeff's Grandma & Grandpa Layton, presents/dinner at my parent's house, & the Janssen party.

It was a busy day, but so so fun!
